Instrument Tuition Programme

The Music Department Instrument Tuition Programme is an extra-curricular programme offering one-to-one music tuition for Year 3-13 Dulwich College Shanghai students.
Our qualified instrument teachers set individual courses of study and may recommend students sit Trinity Guildhall or ROCK SCHOOL music examinations.

Instruments Taught
Piano - Voice - Guitar - Drum-kit - Violin - Viola - Cello - Double Bass - Erhu - Flute - Clarinet - Saxophone - Trumpet - Trombone
Fees
RMB200 / 30 minute lesson - Paid in advance, upon receipt of invoice, to the College Finance Office.
Students may only take lessons from the College instrument teacher
Students need to have their own instrument
Monday-Friday – once a week – 30 minutes*
Year 3 – 9 lessons in class time**
Year 10 – 13 lessons out of class time***
* For more advanced students 60-minute out-of-class time lessons can be arranged (fee RMB 400 / 60 minute lesson).
** Lesson times are rotated (changed) each week so that the same classroom time is not missed.
*** Year 10-13 students have priority over out of class lesson times, however, it may be possible to schedule out-of-class time lessons for younger students.

Please fill in an enrolment form and return it to the Music Office. Once processed, you will receive an enrolment confirmation email.

Enrolment – Rules and Information
Enrolment is open from the first week of the academic year until June.
Enrolment is for the academic year and rolls over from term to term, re-enrolment is not necessary.
Once enrolment is confirmed the current term’s lessons must be completed.
To discontinue lessons, notice must be given in writing/via email to the Instrumental Studies Coordinator by the withdrawal dates listed below otherwise enrolment will not be cancelled and the following term’s lessons will need to be completed and fees paid (or fees in lieu charged).
Term 3
Full Term: 10 lessons
Monday 12th April – instrument lessons begin.
Wednesday 5th May – Lent term fees due.
Wednesday 3rd February – final date of withdrawal to stop lessons at the end of Lent Term.
Missed Lessons
Student is absent (or cannot be found) and teacher not informed in advance: you are charged. The teacher is not required to make up lesson.
Teacher is absent: teacher is required to make up lesson.
Communication
All students receive a Practice Diary which you should check and sign every week. The diary is a vital link between you and the instrument teacher.
The instrument teacher’s contact details will be in the Practice Diary and they are your first contact concerning your child’s lessons.
